Just curious how many have read this book. It is one of my all time favorite; hence, my handle - Phaedrus

Then the follow-up poll should be . . .

. . . how many times have you read it? I'm into the Ted Simon classic right now, Jupiter's Travels, so I haven't gotten back around to Robert Pirsig for a re-read yet. But I will. Zen is not a one-time reader for most. After all with Pirsig there's the surface, then watch out for what lies under the surface!

...3 more worth reading
The Perfect Vehicle by Melissa Holbrook Pierson, she has a mid sized Guzzi writes like a champ! Also The Complete Motorcycle Nomad by Roger Lovin, great stories and traveling advice, a little dated but one of those books that's always good to read. The there's always Hunter Thompson's "Hell's Angles" (Fear and Loathing in California), always a good read even if you don't like to read about outlaw bikers.

"Zen" is available online as a pdf. file.

Does seem a little odd reading it on your computer screen thou.

Not that odd is a bad thing......

And for those who'd like some help navigating this fusion of road trip and East-meets-West philosophizing, there's the

Guidebook to Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Ron Di Santo and Tom Steele.

I read this book back in the early '70s. I can't recall much, but at one point Persig made a leap in his philosophy where I could not follow him.

At the time I had just extracted myself from Scientology, and was deep into science, philosophy and psychology, trying to sort out my own ideas about life, the universe and everything. I am now a sceptical extremist!

I have read it twice. It's got so much in it, I read it at a text-book pace the first time. Not a great fan of Lila though.
