I had fallen in with the idea of the bike being called the MP3. Then they took that away and replaced it with "Piaggio Three Wheeler." I laughed at the obviousness of it. But now.. the MZ3... Hmm. Not my first pick, but I'll go along with it. As if I have any choice!

On a sort of related note, does anyone know what the "MP" part of the original name stood for? I am wondering what the relationship may be (if any) to the MP5 and MP6 prototypes introduced by Piaggio in the early '40s.

This scooter needs a name not a Code...
MP3, MZ3 , Its just too close to being a quick fix. This scooter needs a name like "Piaggio Proteus"
or Piaggio Probe"

I'd have thought it would have been changed to MPV3
Multi Purpose Vehicle Three.

But then Mazda might get upset.

I was talking to the Piaggio rep at the NYC Motorcycle Show about what he had heard about the 400 coming. He told me that they have not decided yet if it will be a US product and that the 250 was just a little slower off the line than a GTS, but does fine once it's rolling.

He said he didn't think it would come this year at least.

You all are missing the most obvious potential name possible.

Especially true given that, in a previous rendition, it was called the MP3.

They should call it the triPod.

Those were the bad alien machines in the latest Scary Movie, they called them TriPods and they looked like iPods briefly...

MP3
According to the Piaggio rep at the NYC motorcycle show, the issue has been resolved, and the name will stay MP3.
I looked at it carefully, got on, and if it's half as good as it promises to be, it'll make me wanna sing (so no one else can hear; I'm not a sadist)..so maybe it's not such a bad name.
