Hi Ebeth! Yes it's an extremely long-term project... in the background are two sandblasted scooters. The bottom one is one I bought in 1986 for $100. Took it home and pulled it apart to paint it... oops... twenty-three years went by and it now looked like this

You may be interested to know that the dark red colour inside means it's an ex-postie bike, mostly used in South Australia (state) up until the early to mid seventies. They use CT110's now.

So I sandblasted it and it looks like this now -

I'll do a thread later when I get into it.

Got a text from my painter dude. GS frame is sandblasted and ready for bodywork & paint. I'm 2nd in line behind a friend with another GS project so I expect a late March, early April finish hopefully. We'll see.

Today I -

Tightened the rear brake cable

Fitted the new headlight

Fitted the spark plug rubber

Sprayed the horn cover in chrome spray - It looks nothing like chrome. Just another shade of silver. But still, it looks a bit better than before.

Ordered a new throttle cable

got my first flat. going about 55mph and heard this loud bap bap bap and i am looking around like what is that? it wasnt my enginie cuz it felt the same. next thing i know it felt like my rear wheel seized and i am going all wobbly in my lane lol pulled over and the engine was still running...so i look down and flat rear tire.
well i have the sip road sport on my bike, so that means no easy switch of tires! arrrghh!
so i laid her down and got the rear off b/c it was flat and then let the air out of the spare to get it on. Now you are probably thinking: what are you doing!? that wont do u any good!
well i lucked out tremendously where i got the flat....
right in front of a goodyear tire service center! LOL talk about luck, right!?
they of course were gracious enough to refill my tire with air and i was on my way. 15-20 minutes tops. that was my fun ride lol

it turns out it was a big bolt screw. It also looks like it slightly got stuck and gouged part of the engine case, there's some scratches, and then got lodged in there good and that's when I lost all the air. There are two holes in the tire right next to each other. Ill take some pics so you can see. Crazy! and yes i wouldnt want a front blow out either! I am just glad I wasnt going a whole lot faster!

I dyed both of these to match my seat. The tail light gasket was originally "grey", but it was the whitish-grey that just looks like dirty white. The fork link cover was originally glossy black.

THIS IS NOT PAINT. It is new pigment embedded into the rubber/plastic. I did a test using old nasty black cowl rubber. I degreased it with simple green, dried it, then dyed it. It turned this same color gray. After it dried, i attacked it with some 80 grit sand paper. The surface got nasty, but the color stayed the same.

it's a secret for now. I'm have a piece sitting in direct sunlight on my porch. After it's been there a week, if it still looks good, i'll tell everyone how to do it.

I just don't want to go recommending something to everyone if it's not as awesome as I think it is.

this process would make it satin black. rubber stuff will stay glossy if it was to begin with. But to do plastics, you have to scuff them with 1000 grit wet/dry first, which is just enough to make glossy plastics into satin.

meanwhile, between repairing a flat tire and causing a mini valdez in my driveway, i discovered why my right rear blinker wasnt working. the contact that attaches to the wire that is on the cowl "stud" (for lack of a better term) that makes contact on the metal towards the front of the scooter. yeah that thing fell off lol so i just scooched the wire all along the cowl so i could have some length to work with. i noticed on the other cowl it looks like the top of a nail, so...i took a nail, and wrapped the now stripped wire around it and slid it back in the "stud." electaped it and she is good to go! never thought i would actually be happy to hear that beeping sound lol so there's a fix for ya if you need it in a fix.
