Not sure I'm convinced\ Josh, not from a few old friends' bikes I can think of!

Here is an old Pic from Kings Park! about 30 years ago I think. Nothing to do with shiny bikes or not, and not sure I have posted this before, but a nice reminder of old Perth runs.

Interesting pic Alan. Where are all the Lammies that the Perth crowd ship over every year for the national rally?

The Vespas far outnumbered the Lambrettas. My bikes consisted of a 150 Sprint, a 125 that I moved on as fast as I could, 3 Rallys and a GP200. The Lambretta was a beast of a bike, fast, but not reliable. At all. We did a lot of runs to places like York, Australind etc, and I only broke down once. On the GP, in the middle of nowhere, on a stinking hot bastard of a WA day, with a sheared throttle cable and no spare. We spent about 3 hours baking in the sun before we worked out a solution. Never had an issue on the Vespas. Ever. I think that has influenced me greatly in my views now!

There may have been a few on that run, but they would have been well in the minority. It seemed to me that most the Lambretta riders were going through the "scooter boy" phase and chopping their bikes back and making little racers. Never understood the desire to butcher your bike, but each to their own. I'm kinda surprised they have so many left over there.

My friend Vince has a nice Lambretta stored away somewhere, and his original Vespa still, fondly referred to as the "beast". For good reason.

A couple more WA shots from the same era....
I'm in this one before I cleaned my life and lost my parka! There is an Arsenal scarf on me I believe, bang in the centre of the pic. Must have been just before another run. Kings Park seemed a common place to start.

Another run. A couple of Lambrettas in this one!

They must have been in fashion then I guess, cos my bikes never had 'em.

I think the 80;s was get what you could. There was nothing about like there is now. Mind you, scooters were cheap to buy as well. I think I paid a couple of hundred for the GP, and maybe 700 or something for one of my rallys. The sprint i got off an old guy for a few hundred as well. Far cry from today's prices, and these were all pretty good bikes.

On lunch break today I finally had a little time to take the old clutch cable off, this stuff is all new to me but I'm eager to learn things mostly on my own (and Vaders texts, lol).

Tried to cut the old frayed end off of the cable before pulling it through the housing but had these shitty wire cutters that I believe just made things worse. So after much grunting and pulling the cable still attached to the clutch lever it finally pulled through. It was bunching up at the adjuster bolt btw, so I wasn't really pulling it that hard through the end of the housing. Anyways, once it got through there it came right on out.

Then I removed the snapped adjuster bolt which came out easier than I had expected fearing beforehand that it may be stripped.

Hopefully by tomorrow given I get another long lunch I'll put the new stuff on.

One question though, and remember this is my first time round, when everything was off I was looking back over some things and discovered that the clutch arm is apparently spring loaded, so when pushing it towards the front of the bike and releasing it pops back to it original position.

When I install this new cable and get to that step, do I just leave the clutch arm in the original position it's in or do I need to push it foward any? I'll be using a fourth hand tool as well if that matters.

Thanks MV!!! Back on the road soon I hope!

Gald that came out without hassle.. I told you about the crappy wire cutters!
Remember what I told you about pulling the cluch arm to preload that spring? you need to do that.. this is why a 4th hand tool, or a nother set of hands, or the zip tie trick I told you will come in handy... you meed to pull it (the arm) until it stops moving by hand, and set the pinch bolt there... and remember to leave those threads on the adjuster, so you can tighten the cable if need be, and after it initially stretches...

Glad you're making progress brother.

oh.. and reaching out for help is never a problem... I'm happy to help.. just like most here!

Haha, Vader I knew you'd be one of the first to respond, hate to blow your phone up bro, figured I'd go ahead and post here to give you a night off, lol.

I do remember us going over the clutch arm situation but couldn't quite remember exactly what to do.

So again, you're saying go ahead and push the arm foward as far as it will go by hand and set the pinch there right?

Then on the adjuster I want it set so little, to no threads are showing out the back right?

I'll shoot you a message once I have it all in place and give you the results, thanks again, HUGE help!

no.. for the adjuster.. you'll want to screw it almost all the way in..so you'll be seeing lots of threads sticking out the back of the swingarm... that way you'll be able to back it out (counter clock) which will tighten the cable if need be.. and when the cable stretches you'll be able to continue.. and yes on the arm.. pull it tight. you'll feel when the spring pretty much stops with finger force..
then set the pinch bolt there..

Tim? Howley?

Not sure there was 'trouble' between the groups really, just some perceived bollocks I guess. From both sides. Funny days. Makes me feel young knowing i was Next Gen crowd!

I saw a pic of Tim somewhere recently, maybe on someone's FB pics, with Mark Helm I think.

Tim (if it is Howley) would know the Vince I was talking about a while ago. Vince was one of those guys that was well known across both groups. Just mention "The Beast" and Tim should remember!

I'd go back at night and "acquire" that!

my bro acquired a large piece of a billboard once.. I put it on a wall in my bedroom.. it took up the whole wall.. it was a piece of a guys face... total trip to look at that close up.. just colored dots.. you'd have to be across the street to be able to see the face..

but this one doesn't look that big
and would do a lot more good on your wall than out on the sidewalk pushing condos!

just sayin'
