I'm not sure why you would expect that. The 2-stroke 50s such as the ET2 are notoriously somewhat thirsty for their displacement. That comparison might be true for the LX50 vs. LX150, if the 50 were ridden with a light hand on the throttle. Most folks tend to ride 50s at or near WOT most of the time though.
Yes not remotely 85 mpg. That is more an LX50 mark. I regularly take mine up to 38 mph or so and with a passenger, and I average 53 mpg. Never hit 60 mpg on mine, and I DO service it regularly and treat it nice. The ET2 is a blast to ride around the city but do not look at it like a moped in terms of fuel economy.
