Modern Vespa

After reading all the posts about the exhaust gasket issues on the GT 200, I wasn't about to suffer any of those problems so, I ordered the Exhaust Bearing and installed it today on my new, 220 mile GT.

Simple installation, just follow the instructions. Doing it to a new exhaust system made the greatest challenge the removal of the 'perfectly good' stock gasket. A few taps with a screwdriver and hammer and it peeled right out. Slid the new bearing in and re-assembled everything.

The bearing is a well made, worthwhile, albeit slightly pricey but definitely high quality product, earning an A+.

Cool...I just got mine from motoamore and hope to install it soon. Glad to hear it's pretty easy. I haven't blown mine out yet but figured better safe than sorry.

Same here Doug. Almost 4k miles and no trouble. I'm heading on a 1k mile weekend at the end of the month and don't want to get stuck someplace. I'm installing my MotoAmore Exhaust Gasket / Bearing this week.

Is the motoamore gasket a multi use replacement for the original equipment or is it a one time only substition for the one time only original equipment?

It's a good preventitive measure. I haven't heard of anyone blowing out the gasket on the GT200 yet, only on the GTS250. I think the GTS runs hotter, and may burn the packing sooner than the GT.

Well it's made of bronze so it should last. I think you still could develop a leak if it's not welded closed in the long run.

Installed the bearing/sleeve, so far so good. I also put a washer and a lock washer with a nut on the other side.

I started to blow mine out.

I heard it, so I investigated and slid it back into place.

I retightened it.

I am planning to get the bearing myself.

My dealer has a couple in stock, so I will get it from David.

I'll get it when I take the rear tire in for mounting.

Got a pic of what you mean Randy? Anyone know what the lb. torq should be used on the bolt?

Just curious, how many miles did you have on your GT200 when you heard it, and had you ever removed the muffler to change the tire before? I'll probably end up putting one on mine just for safety, but I have over 4k miles so far without an exhaust leak.

Just to chime in here....I've got 5k on the original gasket/bearing and when I changed my rear tire at 4k, I took the entire muffler off at the head to avoid/minimize the movement at that joint. I'm still leak free but figured it's coming....just a matter of time. I also hardly ever do speeds of more than 50-55mph....mostly in town stuff so maybe that's helped.

This isn't Tom writing but this is my story:
As I sit here GTS-less I wish I had kept a spare muffler gasket on the shelf for this contingency. The gasket is apparently a one-use item. I started to hear the muffler puffing about 400 miles after the dealer changed my rear tire so I checked my bill and noticed I wasn't charged for a new gasket. Rather than burn my brake line I am hoping scooterswest gets on with mailing me several replacements.
I wanted to try ordering one from motoamore to see how their bronze bearings work but I'm buggered if I can figure out how to enter their website. I may have to telephone them. How deliciously old fashioned!

I now have close to 5500 miles on her, and started hearing the loud noise at about 5000 miles.

The clamp bolt had vibrated loose, and gasket started to slip out.

I ride mostly freeway, at 60 to 75 mph......like I stole it.

No I hadn't removed the tire, or muffler either.

I do have a new rear tire, and will be removing the muffler, and rear wheel to have the tire mounted.

I want to take it apart myself, for the experience.

When I called a couple of weeks ago, Vespa of Riverside had a couple of the muffler bearings in stock.

I assume he got them from Motoamore.
