Yes, it failed.

After looking and listening to where the leak was coming from for weeks I finally found it.

It turns out that the header pipe cracked at the weld that holds the GTS o2 sensor boss. (it didn't fall off just cracked enough to cause a major leak)

I was planning to remove my Scorpion since I have not been happy with it since day 1 (in terms of fit and performance-I do like the look of the pipe on my GT) Now that this happened I finally removed it.

I can't believe how much better the bike runs now. It was stalling before (now that it is cold) Now, it is fine and, I have more power of the line.

Anyway, I will post a pic of it as soon as I find my digital camera.

how did you notice the leak? did it make a weird noise?

I noticed it for a while. But, since the bike is sort of away in storage (not riding because too much snow and cold here in Toronto) I didn't look further into it.

But one day it was nice out and took the bike out and started it up and I always knew that there was a leak coming out from the cylinder area and I saw smoke coming out from the boss area. Also, there were soot deposits from there.

When I finally took the pipe off I could see it more clearly. It failed right on the weld.

There was another guy on the forum that posted a pic that the hanger broke and finally the header pipe gave out from the exhaust bouncing in the same spot where mine failed.

I don't know...but, for me I was never really happy with this pipe from day one. To be honest I think that the bike runs so much better with the OEM muffler on.

Yes, that is the same area that mine broke, but mine is not as cracked. I think that I noticed it early on and didn't let it crack further.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. If you need a replacement header pipe, I have them in stock for a few models. Air leaks (cracks in the exhaust) can cause poor running conditions.

Installation note on these pipes for those that have and or want a scorpion exhaust:

Loose fit all the bolts first. Then hand tighten them all equally. Then snug them down. From my experience, (Don't know about this story) people run into to trouble for two reasons. One is that the mounting bracket gets installed upside down which puts undue stress on the pipe. The second is that people tighten down the cylinder first and then muscle the hanger into place, or tighten down the can first and then muscle the cylinder into place. Also causing undue stress.

Again, don't know if you bought the exhaust through us, but sorry to hear of your troubles. That's disappointing.
