Modern Vespa

I just got a Garmin Zumo 550, and am installing it on my LX150. I've read all the posts here about the mounting hardware, and I've got that covered. But I was wondering if anyone has any advice on the best place to wire it into power. I would prefer to hook it into something inside the headset (I'll just run the wire into one of the openings for mounting the windscreen).

Can I just tap into the headlight power wires, or will that cause problems?

The manual says it draws 15W at 13.8V DC typical usage.

Thanks for any advice -- I admit to being a bit "electrically challenged"!

P.S. Used the Zumo in the car this weekend for a jaunt to Monterey, and it is pretty darn cool. Can't wait to get it on my scoot!

Yeah, I saw that one. I was hoping I didn't have to go to all the trouble of removing the glove box/legshield cover, and the floor panels... Seems like a lot of work! But I guess it provides a more general solution which is good.

There is a kit somewhere that you can get to wire directly to your battery,
It'll essentialy gives you an outlet that dangles in your pet carrier.

Then you can plug into that and run a cord to the GPS on your dash.

You'll need a cigarette plug adapter for the Gerbing kit.
I've heard of it being done, Just haven't done it myself.
(The gerbing kit is just an example, Look into Radio Shack too)

Its the cleanest way to do it. It really only takes about 2 1/2 hours to complete the process. Besides you get to see your scotter naked. hahaha

One of those came with my LX. It was installed for the Battery Tender that was included that I never have had to use.

Another reason I love my Garmin Quest. It has an 18 hour rechargeable battery which makes it easy to move around between my bikes without having to worry about wiring. 8)

the Zumo has to be plugged into external power or a bluetooth headset to hear audio. On the GTS I found an unused connector with a switched power lead controlled by the ignition switch and tapped into it. I do recommend that you use a switched power lead so that you won't leave it turned on to run the battery down.

As far as power draw is concerned with your Zumo, there would be no problem with tapping into the low beam power wire.
