Modern Vespa

I rang Scooter Parts Direct this AM and found out that Joel the owner is sick with Cancer. He had a kidney removed yesterday and is recovering well. The gal I talked to on the phone sounded kinda down about everything which is understandable.

I am sure they could do with some product orders to increase cash flow and maybe a kind email if you don't want to buy from them. I ordered some oil filters @ $10 ea.

Just helping a fellow scooter supplier out.

Oh noooo. I was in there a couple of weeks ago and Joel was going home early, not feeling well... but it seemed like more.

I bought some parts from him awhile back. He seemed real nice on the phone. Hope all is going better now.

I just placed an order with them. I don't know if it will make him feel any better but I feel a little bit better. I've ordered from them in the past and they've been great. I spoke with Joel once or twice and he seems like a nice guy. I hope he's well soon.

Joel and SPD used to be in Santa Ana right in back of me with our back doors facing each other. I worked closely with Joel and son Derrek with their custom bikes and repairs. They gave me my first scooter and thats how I got into this. He always treated me well, Then they moved back east.

Im sorry to hear of this, A few weeks ago He told me he wasn't doing well but we did not get any further then that. Beat this Joel, We are ALL pulling for you with our thoughts and prayers.

That is awful to hear, I hope that he pulls through this. I've never ordered from them but most of my mods were ordered by my dealership from them.

I've gotten more than a few things from SPD, and Joel was very nice a conversational...even if the lines were all ringing. I'm hoping that he make a full recovery. If a purchase right now helps...then buy I will. Get better Joel...cuz who's gonna get me those obscure scooter parts ....

I'm a bit of a pessimist at my young age. I don't question whether I will get cancer or not. I just question which type I will get.

I met Joel on a trip from Washington State, to California in his former Scooter Cafe shop in Santa Ana, when he and his son Derek worked together. Joel chatted it up big time with my old man, while Derek helped me with my Sprint restoration. Joel was happy to stop what he was doing, and make us (strangers to that point) feel welcome.

Since moving to Georgia, as SPD Joel has always been enthusiastic and generous about sponsoring rallys, at least when I have approached him, and always been a gentleman in the process. Additionally he's always stood by his products, and readily will do whatever to make "it right".

So, my best wishes are for his speedy recovery, and to continue to have a guy like this continue to support the scooter community-at-large.

Perhaps we could pass around some giant sized get well cards, at the next rallies we collectively attend, and send them off to him? See from how many corners of this country he can recive cards from?

Even though i'm certain he's not perusing this board right now: Best Wishes Joel!

Forgot JOEL. My grandma had kidney cancer in the late 70's. Her left kidney was removed. Big deal back then. She died in 1995 at 82. keep the faith
