looks like I spoke too soon. It ran great yesterday but it bogs down today. New carb, new plug, new battery, new gas, new fuel tap, starts fine, idles fine, when I advance the throttle half the time it takes off and half the time it dies. If I put it up on the stand and rev the throttle I can put it down and take off ok. Compression is 100. I read it should be 125 - 150 ? but when it runs it runs strong. 40 MPH. It is driving me crazy. 630 total miles. 12 years old. Could the ignition unit be failing ? does a new carb need adjustment ? This is making me crazy. I hope someone can give some good advice.

rookie mistake. I thought a new carb would not need to be adjusted to fix the problem but 1 1/2 turns out on the mixture screw cleared the problem. runs like a rocket now.

Well done sorting it yourself.

And *any* new carb needs to be adjusted.
