Hi everyone.

My father in law died last week and i have the task of selling his Vespa. It is a 52 plate PX200e with 12500 miles on the clock. It has a small mark on the spare wheel cover and a slight repair to the front mudguard. Apart from this the bike is in ver very goo condition. It has full service history regardless of cost with all previous receipts and has only one owner from new.

I have conflicting amounts ranging from £500 p/x, £1000ono private sale, however, ebay has a 51 plate going for £1500 with 3 days left!!

As you can probably tell i have no real idea what to do with it. All i do know is i want it to go to someone who will enjoy the bike and take care of it as i know the father in law would have also.

If anyone can help me i would appreciate it very much!!!!

Also the best place to advertise the scooter.

Hallo, and welcome to MV, albeit in sad circumstances.

Ebay is definitely the way to go. My opinion: have a 1,000 reserve and an 800 first bid and it should sell well. Others might have different ideas though!

Those PX200 scoots are as rare as rocking horse c**p, and I would sell the scoot at the top end of the price scale. HOWEVER, this would depend on the condition, whether it has a service record, and the paintwork is in good condition. I would take your time and have a good look around at what others are going for. Ask any local dealers of a ball park price, and take it from there. If your thinking of putting it on eBay, try to put it in late March - mid April as the scooter season is just getting started then. Place a reserve price on the MINIMUM price you would sell, for example, if you would not the scooter go below £400, then put £400 reserve. Your on the best time to sell it on eBay.
If you go for a private sale, then take a look at scootering classified http://www.scootertrader.com/ - that'll give you a good starting point to base your price.
Good luck!
Graham

I would always start high, and then see if you get any interest...
Yes, scooter prices always tend to be the highest in the spring.....
I would avoid E-Bay.... too many horror stories......try to sell it private.....get cash.....GumTree? My daughter sold her Smart Car there...

Thanks everyone for their help so far. I haven't seen a lot of px200's around on the t'internnet so thought they might be slightly rare. My only thought was it is a full bike licence scooter which may put the CBT only people off a little. I will take the advice and try ebay for a £1000 reserve. No harm in trying. I would keep it but the missus says no!!

I think it's time to tell her who wears the trousers in your household (if that's ok with her!)

Good luck with any sale, if you get it MOTed it should be good for a grand.
