Everyone said it couldn't be done.

No way can the new OEM front rack fit on a GTV with a Stebel shoved up inside the legshield. And the badge wings would have to go, too. And after looking at the rack templates and the inside of the legshield, it was easy to see why.

Enter my extremely determined engineer fiance, Dan.

For the simplest part, Dan just used a slightly smaller drill bit than the template asked for. The holes came very close, but in the end I did not have to remove or even cut into the chrome badge wings.

Dan didn't want me to lose the Stebel any more than I wanted to give it up. A friend offered me another horn that was smaller, but the electrical system didn't cooperate with it. I just planned to re-install the stock horn until I could figure something out. After fiddling around to make sure all the brackets lined up, Dan decided to try and fit the Stebel back in. It's now sitting sideways, shoved as far back as it will go. He even modified a little bracket to hold it in place, despite the fact that it's in there so tight it can barely move anyway.

Even though he doesn't care much one way or the other about most scooter asthetics, Dan did remark on how nice the rack looks. Then he started talking about how awesome it would be to have blue LEDs up underneath my front fender, and I kind of stopped listening... lol.

Disclaimer: The bit about keeping the Stebel was a real PITA. I don't recommend trying it unless you've got a lot of time and patience, and you're damned and determined to shove it in with the rack brackets.

It's an OEM Vespa-branded accessory, so you should be able to get it at any Vespa dealer. Vespa part number 672321. I've seen it listed online for $240 - $274, so you may want to consider who's got a good deal on shipping if you don't get it from a brick-and-mortar shop.

Now you got me to thinking. My son has an 09 GTV same color. The big question is would it be worth the money and time. He's a fair weather rider and with his wedding coming up is thinking about selling it.

While I don't really like the small wheels from a riding standpoint I wish I could afford to keep it from the retro look point of view. It would make a good backup/second scoot which is already in the family.

Oh almost forgot. That's really a great look adding that to the front of the scooter.

Come on... you know you want it. The pretty classic cream color... the gorgeous leather seat... the timeless Vespa logo...

As far as the wheels go, maybe I'm a weirdo. I love both big-wheeled scoots and the traditional smaller wheels. I'm happy with either, they both have their strengths. The GT series is surprisingly stable for its wheel size in most situations.

Actually, I do want it. However the wife has already said no. It's not that she doesn't want me to have it but with the economy the way it is we can't afford both scooters and family car payment. Her riding a scooter isn't an option. I can't even get her to ride pillion with me due to an event that she experience as a child. When I say the family car I'm speaking of an '06 Chrysler Town and Country. 3 children 1) 6'3", 2) 6'9", and 3) 6'6". The 6'9" is the owner of the GTV.

Hmm.

Now that I think about it, just once. It was a sucky once, though. I should fix that!

Well, we did it, so it's possible. We didn't have to do much "customizing," more like... slight altering.

How do you have your horn installed at the moment, and what orientation is it? I can try to find a pic of mine tomorrow or open it up and take a new one if that would help you out.

Exactly which Stebel you have will also determine how you'll be able to fit things.

oh man what a chore this was...but rewarding. I managed to keep the stebel nautilus, but had to ditch the horn cast light. I am fine with that for now, I did a mod on the running lights so there is some lighting in the front anyway. I had the stebel secured to the brackets where the new mounting bracket for the front rack is now mounted so I just slid the horn down and didnt really mount it to anything because there is no space for it to even move! I made sure that it wouldn't rub any wires etc. Very happy with the new rack, and even happier that I can still afford to warn drivers that i am here with a loud blast from the stebel!
