In Mountain View Ca, there used to be an awesome RC shop that had a fully functional F-14 Tomcat, complete with sweeping wings.

How the hell anyone has the balls to risk flying these things I don't know. I hated crashing my RC's, the work to restore them was phenomenal. I bet I spent 10 hours building/repairing for every hour in the air.

I have a few RC boats including a very reliable rescue Tug. Impact is minimal
I tow a tennis ball about 30 feet behind the Tug, circle the stranded sailboat several times snagging the keel and head for shore.

The RC jet is amazing but I'm just as impressed someone being able to fly it and land it. Gotta give that guy some credit.

Yeah that is one of the coolest things I have seen in quite awhile. I didn't even know that was legal.

This one was recommended with the other one. Not as cool but pretty cool too. X-1 recreation.

Having watched the real thing take off and land, I can't believe how realistic that is. The only thing missing was the mid-air re-fueling right after take off.

And the fuel leaking from the tanks because the titanium had not yet expanded...

Thus, the necessary re-fueling.

I seem to recall watching an interview of an engineer who worked on the SR-71 and claimed that the engines were theoretically capable of pushing the aircraft faster than the titanium could handle in terms of shedding heat...

The engines themselves are pretty amazing because they slow down the flow of air to something the engine can handle, then generate thrust.

I recall an interview with one of the test pilots. He said on one particular flight he was WOT and the engines stopped and he smashed his head into the cockpick because of the sudden loss of power.......just like my scooter when I let off the throttle.

Fortunately he got them fired back up.

Bang
When I was flying gliders at Caddo Mills, TX. The RC jet folks would come out twice a year to fly off of an intersecting runway. When you are up in a small plane, those jets look a lot like cruise missles. After one whizzed by me, I chose to stay on the ground on those days.

A radio-controlled drone. What a concept. Maybe we ought to sell this idea to our military.

Wait a minute...

Oh, right.

Wow. Very nice. FROG i don't think it's from the US. I can't make out the language but it's not English. They even have a RC runway made wherever they are doing this. Cool. Ken over here does them. I'll make sure he sees this. Thanks.

Sounds like Dutch or Flemish. There are lots of clubs around with runways. Paved runways make smaller pieces than grass when you auger in.

We talking the SR-71 video or B-52? The folks on the SR-71 video were German. Nicht wahr?

Frickin' awesome!

We used to build the flight control for the full sized version. It was the size of a coffin, all machined out, liquid cooled throughout the chassis. Originally it had one set of electronics, when the technology made smaller possible they made it redundant, two sets in the chassis. Then the technology made it smaller and we went dual redundant in the same space. 'heck of a lot of pride in that project.

It sounds AMAZING!

Nah, I'm thinking of bringing one of my bee hives from the nearby kibbutz cherry orchards where I keep them and setting it up next to the fence between our houses. Just between us, the bees won't bother anyone... especially now when everything is in bloom and they have more nectar than they know what to do with. Heck, this time of year I rarely even put on gloves or a veil when working with them they are so content.

But my neighbors don't know that.

Back to the topic at hand... I've built and sailed a few R/C pond yachts with my kids over the years... but in our area there are a few people who are seriously into R/C gliders... and I'm really tempted to make that my next project. My eight year old is just the right age for that.
