Just picked this up this morning.

1956 Vespa
Good: Mostly complete No significant rust. Has good compression.
Bad: Needs rebuilt. Original paint is gone, gone, gone.
Odd: Small 'frame door' does not match, says 788-94491 (AllState?).

Engine:VL3M*121989* (Makes this a '56 Vespa 150)
Frame: VL3T*121725* (Makes this a '56 Vespa 150)

Other than getting it back on the road, what would you do?
I'm open to your suggestions. NFS.

What's the deal with all these barn finds. Are farmers really that absent minded? Could everybody who owns a barn please nip out there now and have a quick look around.

Now that the adult children of Ohio farmers have the interwebs they are all eager to sell their old scoots. Not that I'm complaining.

My theory is this:
All the farmers/old guys bought them and when the bikes died they didn't want to throw anything away and since they had plenty of dry storage space they hung onto them. This one came out of somebody's dry shed.

Actually there are no more Vespas or AllStates Or Lambrettas in Ohio. Move along, move along.

It looks like a good project

Though the frame number might be a problem if half is missing

Good find there. In California, we have storage unit finds, they're less glamours than sayin' "barn find" but still hold their own.

Realized that I haven't updated this project post in a while, so here goes.

Cleaned up the fuel tap. Something cool about a glass part in the fuel line.

The plan for this summer is to just get it back on the road in black primer and then see what else needs to be sorted once the snow flies next winter.

I'm still looking for additional vendors that can help to replace some of 'wear parts' (think cables, etc.) but for the most part it's a complete bike. So if you have any ideas or examples of similar bikes that were restored, please let me know. Thanks!

I have a scooter in similar condition ('61 VNB) which I am working on here in KY--has good compression, I cleaned and rebuilt the carb recently, new fuel tap, cleaned and relined fuel tank and getting ready to prime frame. Has starting problems which I traced to a faulty condenser lead, so I pulled the flywheel and have ordered a condenser and new points. We'll see if that helps start up. Good luck!
