The company that I work for is going to relocate from 45 miles away from my house to .5 miles away in a couple of months. I'm planning on picking up an LX150 and am wondering what type of insurance policies you guys are running?
Thanks,
Josh

Hey, Josh,
Rates depend upon your age and driving record. If you have an auto policy, call them first and see what they'll charge to add on a a scoot.
I just changed to Progressive for my two scoots. Basic coverage and comprehensive for $258/year.
Best to you...

I'm with Progressive as well in Texas, known for high insurance, I'm 58 and have a pretty good driving record. I pay $180 for full comp. I thought that was pretty good, (when you look at my car insurance including a 21 year old boy.) ouch.

Everybody talks about price, how much they saved, etc. How about "I got 3x the Liability protection AND a lower deductible"?
Your best bet is to sit down with your agent (if you have one) and discuss how much coverage you need. (If you don't have a local agent ask your scooter shop or a reputable m/c dealer-e.g BMW, etc-to recommend a local agent that rides a cycle-this can be a huge help. Plus you have a real person that can go to bat for you when needed.)
Have ENOUGH Liability coverage first and foremost. A zero or $100 deductible sounds nice but if you have the minimum amount of Liability coverage (woefully inadequate) and your passenger is injured, you hit/kill a pedestrian or other scooterist, run into someone's classic Corvette, knock over a row of vintage Vespas at a rally, etc. you'll be sued for what your insurance didn't cover. Can you say bankruptcy?
A lot of people will say "I don't have much. Let them sue me." If you have any income/any assets then you need coverage. If you get in front of a judge that likes to garnish wages/attach future earnings-you are at risk.
Don't look at insurance as something you have to have because: civil authority requires it, your bike is financed, etc. Look at it as the best way to protect your privelage to ride/drive and protect your/your family's financial future. So have enough!
