I've been posting and lurking for a while, but it occurred to me that I've never officially said hi. And it's been a beautiful day today, so I took a photo for a belated introduction. I'm in Seattle (via Boston, NY, LA and SF, among others), I write code, I drink coffee, I eat tacos and I ride scooters... that's me in a nutshell.

So, hello.

(For those of us fellow seattleites, tag!)

My favorite on my side of Lake Washington is Taqueria Muy Macho and the venerable El Asadero truck. On the east side, it's slim pickings but I am a bit partial to La Cocina Del Puerco

It is suspected that the gloomy weather mishegas is a disinformation spread by Fremont chapter of Evil League of Evil to discourage unemployed youngsters of Portland from moving to Seattle.

(Seriously though, the weather last few weeks has been terrible. Today was the first sunny weekend day we've had in a month.)

Late Spring through mid-Fall is beautiful. 20 Oct through 20 Mar will see very little sun. That's far from "always".

+1 to comment that it's said that some folks spread that rumor to discourage immigration from the less cultured state to the south. But then, it's also said that folks in British Columbia spreads a similar rumor about their weather, so it all works out in the end.

True, the summer here is stunningly beautiful. Coming from East Coast, I like how we don't have the summer rain storms, and how it's not 80% humidity all the time. And then coming from California, I like how it's not 0% humidity or 100 degrees all the time.

But, yeah, it's pretty drizzly during the winter.

Denizens of Vancouver and Seattle should have a secret handshake or something. Two little gems of cities in a beautiful corner of North America, loved by foodies, campers, skiiers, boaters and music-fans... and abandoned by the NBA.

BTW, not sure who I should be talking to over there, but if we could somehow work out a seasonal exchange of sunshine for rainfall... I think we would all come out winners.

A official Aloha and welcome to the forum then. I had a friend who lived on the outskirts of Seattle. Cool city. Can't think of the name of that really old huge hotel down near the water ( a couple blocks up from it) was cool. I stayed in it back in the 90's but i heard they did a makeover. Ferry rides to outer islands was cool. Her son lived on Vashon. Also spent a few days there on my train trip around the US. They had a weird Hostel that you could stay in old covered wagons and tepees, out on Vashon. No campfire because that year, there wasn't enough rain and everything was dry. Crying or Very sad emoticon Have fun with your new scooter.

Things have changed Gordy. Over the past ten years the taco trucks have slowly been heading north & you can now get damn fine tacos and burritos in the PNW

El Sarape on Martin Way was always a family favorite and exceptional Sonora style fare....

Does "deathbytray" refer to the Eddie Izzard sketch?

He used to live round the corner from me and ran a small comedy show at the local White Lion pub each week - he was pretty good even then. We have an unusually high number of comedians here in Streatham - I just figure you need a sense of humour to live here.

Welcome back anytime! I drive through the market everyday to get to work, and ride over there for lunch every now and then.

Yeah, it seems everyone says that about the Puget Sounds. I've met 10 times more boat owners last few years in Seattle than I've met all my life prior to that. Just among my coworkers, we got a couple dinghies, one sailboats, a couple power boats (one of those pulling water skiiers kind of a deal), and one yacht! Even my barista has a sailboat! Basically, I am the only one without one in this city.

I guess it has. I've only lived here for the last 3 years, so I an unfamiliar with this dark ages of tacos the wise ones speak of. As far as I know, Seattle is decent for Mexican. Certainly we don't have the little gems like some of the little LA joints, but I think chicken taco at Asadero is as good as at King Taco.

What we don't have is place for excellent fish tacos. If anyone knows of one, please let me know.

Sure does... I'm a fan. I'd love to be able to say I've been at his little sets at the local pub, but alas no. I'm a US fan, so I found him fairly recently and I've only seen him in videos. Circle is still my favorite (as you could tell), and I love all the ones older than Circle. I'm a little more ambivalent some of the more recent stuff.

DEATH no more ferry. Crying or Very sad emoticon Crying or Very sad emoticon F'ing idiots. We had a planned trip to Maui and were going to do the road to Hana. Took us over a year to get a weekend when we all could go and BAM they pulled it a few months before our trip. Somebody got paid to sabotage them IMHO. People were all upset over the fact they might hit whales. We get stuff here all the time by Matson et al and nobody says anything about them hitting whales. I bet they hit some. WA has them all over the place and they don't hit whales. Whales are smarter than people and they have safeguards built in. Your going to have to rent one on every island. Give us a shout when you get here. I might have the spare room available or the couch if you need it.

Judy...I agree with this 100%.

Whales don't have heart attacks, pay taxes, fall victim to addictions, etc (well, krill maybe...) and typically live longer than we do if left alone to do what they do.

Quote of the day IMO, and couldn't be truer!
