so i met with someone over the weekend selling his Vespa with less then 200 miles. he hasn't run the bike in the last year. the battery was on a battery charger and eventually we got it started. the engine fluttered and couldn't stay running smoothly. he is bringing it to his brother, a mechanic for a tune-up.

it comes with a Vespa topcase, Vespa helmet, additional helmet, and master and spare keys. asking $3350, we settled on 3100.

should i be concerned about the purchase? can a carb cleaning and maybe oil and spark plug change remedy the situation? is the price fair with accessories?

Yes to the former, a little high to the latter.

I don't know about pricing in your area. I purchased a 2009 last year for $2450. It had 11 miles on the clock. It was a buy out from a dealership that closed. It had no accessories. It may be a little high, but if you are happy with the transaction, -meh.

I would honestly say the helmets don't matter unless they fit you well and you are absolutely sure they are intact. If not, what use are they to you? Just me--I wouldn't even factor them into the sale.

I wouldn't pay over $2400 for it. Helmets might not fit and who knows if they are still good. Keys should come with it free of charge. Now for the fun stuff. Tires if original will need to be changed as will the belt. I wouldn't ride it with 6 year old rubber tires and a belt. Your going to need to check all the lines. Hopefully it will run because they really don't like to sit. Also all the fluids need to be changes (oil, hub and brake). The seller is jacking up the price because of gas prices. Good luck.

Yeah, the price is too high. I paid $2750 for my 2007 LX150 with 312 miles on it in Oct., 2008.

Judy is right about the degradable parts that will need to be replaced.
