i've acquired a rebuilt 150cc / 4 speed 1961 vespa motor. i currently have a 125cc / 3 speed 1961 vnb motor currently in my 1961 vnb.

question is this:

when i change out the motors, will there be enough slack at the bottom of my 3 speed shifter to engage the fourth gear in the 150cc / 4 speed or will i have to get a new 4 speed shifter for my handlebars?

thanks

The new engine will work fine with the existing handle grip. I've got a 4 speed in my "58 Allstate. It just doesn't line up with the gear numbers. You'll have to choose gears by feel.

you might be able to adjust the shifter cables so that 1-3 still line up, but 4 is a little surprise.

Jsharp called it. I was able to line up the gears, but there is no 4 stamped on the headset. You wont have trouble figuring it out, though. Nice to have the 4th gear, too.

Like they say. You can line up 1-3 no problem.

I have a 4-speed '64 VLA motor in a '59 VGLA frame that is originally 3 speed:

A secret as in there is a fourth gear there, but you can't see it.
