Modern Vespa

OK, I am just wondering if there are any other scooterists here in eastern Iowa.

It seems like I'm the only person I see on the road on a scooter.
(besides the young'uns with the flag attached to their rear tire)
Mayhaps, this is the situation everywhere, but someone else who is old enough to vote must ride a scooter right?

It's odd going to the Iron Horse Saloon riding a Vespa....

I look forward to Iowa rides along the Mississippi, Iowa has some incredibly beautiful country roads!....on a cage trip years ago we walked thru some burial mounds during a Monarch migration....millions of the criters covered the oaks....

A Vespa, a saloon and Virgil? That's quite a combination!

I feel your pain. I live in a college town in the midwest -- major university with 30K students (go Jayhawks!) -- and still I've only seen one other Vespa in town, and only once at that! Not too many hip urbanites out here on the plains, I'm afraid.

You need to be somewhere more urban, like Kansas City. And I'll add in a little Rock Chalk Jayhawk for my alma mater.

you could always come to California, here in the bay area, youll see a vespa once every couple days, and motercycles all the time. I guess it takes a long while for trends to set in in the midwest, if vespa gets more popularity in the US then expect to see more, I just hope that Vespa wont go bankrupt like before and withdraw form the USA. All we have to do is hope the US will be like Italy! XD

Wow, another person from Iowa on the board! I grew up in Davenport. It is funny that this post appeared. Just yesterday I was thinking if I moved back (god forbid) I would probably be the only one in the whole city with a Vespa!

Going back for my Dad's 75th in October. Haven't been back in 5 years. Place is definitely beautiful in the summer but I have made it a rule not to visit in the winter.

Where in Eastern Iowa are you? Is there a scooter shop there? It would be hard for me to believe that if you are around the Quad Cities that there wouldn't be any other scooters around.

Sorry. I live in Los Angeles... U of I is my alma mater, however. I spent 3 1/2 years in the Iowa City/Coralville/Cedar Rapids area. Where in Iowa are you located?

Im in Cedar Rapids about hour and a half from Davenport

It's distressing to hear others say they do not see alot of other scooters around even in SF, perhaps $3 gas will change that.

My kids are becoming Vespa fans though I am afraid of them going out alone on a scooter (or motorcycle, hell even a car is scary) So I will pass my passion on to them at least

There's the Knuckle Draggers. They're Illinois, Iowa City and Quad City. I'm not sure how that works. Sorry, I'm not too familar with my midwest geography. Al and Kelly Pelzel just moved to IC from Utah. They are VCOA officers and all about the scooter community. You might try looking them up.
