Modern Vespa

Installed a Vespa windshield last night on a previously non-wobbler
GT200. When completed, I rode the scooter the length of our block (7 houses) and guess what happened when I slowed down at the end of the street?

How many who have or DO experience wobble, do or don't have a windshield? Just curious, it was as if someone flipped a switch.

I might be sorry that I said this, but anyhow, I haven't had the dreaded wobble before of after my flyscreen installation. My partner's GT, don't tell him because he hasn't noticed, does have the wobble with the flyscreen. We never had the GT without the flyscreen so don't know about pre screen. I only noticed the wobble when I looked for it and let go of the grips.

Sounds like yet another potential variable.

I've had my Faco mid-size windscreen fitted almost as long as I've owned the GTS, and didn't notice the wobble until I changed from the Savas to the Michelin Pilot Sports. It would be interesting to see what would happen if I removed the windscreen, but I'm not hopeful.

It does seem logical that something like a wind screen that can act as a sail in the wind can affect the steering. Since the windscreens on Vespas are attached to the steering then the wind and air can affect the steering.

after installing my Faco Screen, it seem to help the problem I had before I installed the screen, the wobble is still there but not as bad as before.

Both the ER4 I owned and the present PX150 had windscreens put on after market. No wobble problems.

Since this subject has come up again, I might as well post my findings for what they are worth (more confusion, actually)! Firstly, the shake was there from day one, Pirelli tires, no windscreen. Added Vespa flyscreen, made no difference, good or bad. Added Bitubo front shock, hoping it would help, no difference to the shaking, but did improve ride. Fitted new tires, Avon Strykers, based on someone's advice, still no difference at all, in fact, I think the shake may be slightly more pronounced. I have got to the point where I just ignore it now. The shake is always pretty mild and has never developed into anything serious, so now I accept it as part of the bike's "character"! Oh, I forgot to mention that the bike had a Vespa top box installed when I bought it, with the heavier bar-ends, and I have never ridden without it, so I don't know if it would make any difference, other than in cross winds. I think that the only thing that might help is some sort of steering damper, but I have no idea how one could be attached!

Cross my fingers, I haven't experienced the wobble yet, with or without my Vespa flyscreen. I actually felt like the screen made the general ride smoother.

Maybe Vespas just wobble...but don't fall down?
