I've been half-way following the development of the Smartcar. I love this Zap! Now if we can get it in diesel, I'm in!
Smart should be coming to dealers... next year. But the existing Smart runs on plain ol' gas, right? (Sure, at 40+mpg, but...) They've started a $99 reservation program.
They've seeded and tested some in various places in the US. I saw one parked among the Range Rovers, Hummers and Mercedes on the street in Beverly Hills. I think I was the only one who got excited about it.
So people who ride a Vespa also like the Mini Cooper, VW, and now the Zap!
Wellll... I'm not quite sold on the Zap! yet. Looks promising, but their rudimentary web site leaves a few questions in my mind:
Quote:
The Obvio ! 828 achieves a fuel economy of 12.5 km/liter (29.40 mpg) in urban driving and 17.3 km/liter (40.69 mpg) during highway driving when equipped with ZAP Eco-Flexible Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) - 1.6 Liter/115Hp High Fuel Efficiency
"...when equipped with ZAP Eco-Flexible Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV)?" Are they not all equipped with it?
Their LA dealer is a music/media duplication/concert venue company, Little Radio. They're cool and serious about the evironment, but are they going to provide full service, deal with warranty issues, financing and so on?
That said, I kind of like the look of the 012 model:
It's SO COOL living in the future!
