Modern Vespa

I have been having a bit of a recurring issue. The glovebox on my GTS gets jammed. It opens without incident but sometimes it gets stuck in a semi open position. I don't want to jam it shut as I'm pretty sure it will be hell to open. Anyone else have this same experience.

sounds like the hinge retention plates are loose and causing the door to go all wonky.
if you pull your glove box and tighten them up you should be fine.
i like to add a dab of epoxy to keep the screws tight.

thanks g'man. when you say pull govebox, do you mean remove the while inside of knee guard to get at it?

yes, you'll need to remove the entire glovebox frame.
jess posted a how-to in the tech library which you should find very useful. take your time and don't break anything-- all that stuff is really expensive!

Is it under warranty still? I had mine come off the hinges and get stuck open and the dealership fixed it for me. It is a long process so if they can do it for you it'll save you alot of time. It is not uncommon.

the scoot is still under warrranty but here in LA that would play out with some version of waiting 3 weeks for an appointment and then having Vespa of Sherman Oaks keep the bike for two days and perhaps even fix it. If it's an adjustment? Better DIY. Sad truth.

I had the same problem with my GTS. It turned out that the hinge plates were installed backwards. Just another thing to look for.

This seems to be a common and repetative problem. Vibration appears to be the culprit. It seems to loosen the screws in the bug nuts. even loctite is not a sure cure.
I had this problem on several occasions. The dis-assembly/re-assembly peed me off so much that I tried an alternative. It may work for you.

I solved my problem by putting a strip of teflon tape on the fixed edge of the panel. It provides a "slippery" surface over which the door will move wihtout scuffing.
