Well, the Zippy 1 research is in!

My findings indicate that a man-sized rider (6'3" and 265 Lbs) riding flat out most of the time; with a constant tire pressure of 30 psi front and 30-32 psi rear can expect to get 3300-3500 miles on the Zippy 1 tire from Continental.

My OEM tire was replaced at 2223 miles. At 5465 miles I now have a wear bar showing but could still probably get a couple hundred more miles out of the rear tire. The front one is doing fine. I may be able to double the mileage with it as there is no significant wear on it.

I just bought a new rear Zippy 1 for $44 from Scooterworks in Chicago. Shipping was like 9 bucks. I'm happy with the tire. It has performed extremely well in the rain, too.

I got over 4k miles on my stock Pirellis, and just got Zippy's for the bike today. I'll be putting them on my GT tomorrow.

Thanks for the information. I've been running zippys on the front and back for a while. The scooter works price is a good deal. I should probably stock up while they are still on sale. I ve got about a 1000 miles on the tires, with the front showing no noticeable wear.

I just had emergency eye surgery last Thursday on a partially detached retina on my left eye. (Turning 55 this month has been a blast so far!)

In the light of day, I scrubbed my old Zippy 1 tire down and low and behold, there isn't a wear bar showing yet! I mistook a series of small linear grooves on the outer portion of the tire for the wear bars.

So, they're even better than I thought! The bike handles extremely well with them on.

I'm glad to hear the Pirelli's last long, too. I've got a set of those on the GT.

Do the zippys have a wear bar? I've never noticed that they do.

Suit Scoot,

What type of riding do you do? Mostly interstate or in the city? I ask because I am in the process of buying a new rear tire for my scoot. I had the Zippy 1s and got about 5k out of the last one but was thinking of switching.

HUH? When I said 5K, I meant 5000 miles....If you are referring to Kilometers, it is written as Km.

Mea culpa. When I read that suit scoot had 4K on his Avons I assumed since he is English, that he was talking about kilometers...no more racial profiling from me then!

Sorry for the necropost! I've been searching and I can't seem to find the answer.

How many miles should I get out of a Zippy 1 front tire? Is there a point where I should just replace it due to mileage?
My rear tire went bald and I swapped it out at my 6000 mile service. My front tire still looks fine, has good tread depth left, is wearing evenly, and I haven't had to add any air to it at all. I'm a few hundred miles away from 7000 miles, and I swapped out both front and rear Savas for Zippy 1 tires at the same time, before 1000 miles.

What's this crap about a man-sized rider?? I'm 5'6" 136 lbs., and the last time I checked, still a man.

Oh yeah, I've got the original Pirellis on my scoot, 3,700 miles and still going strong with the rear tire. And, by the way, I'm probably faster then you off the line.

I got about 5K mi out of my first Zippy 1. The second one got a leak somewhere, so I couldn't finish it. It looked like it would have given me maybe 500 mi less.

The fourth rear tire, still on, is a Michelin PS, which has given me only a little over 3K mi. It is due now.

The fourth one is waiting--a Pirelli Diablo. I have high hopes in that one.

The front Sava lasted over 11K and was replaced by a wobble-inducing Michelin PS. That one is still too good to be replaced. I don't know yet what I'll put on. Probably a Zippy 1.

i do a mixture of everything. flat out on the motorways and i hammer it round corners on country lanes.

i try to avoid riding in towns really, i like being an inch from the road at 80mph round a bend.
