Modern Vespa

I've been riding scoots for years and have always wanted to try a route called "Loop the Lake" where essentially we'd start in Chicago and ride around Lake Michigan. People could join/drop out whenever they wanted and we'd schedule 4-5 stops along the way.

None of the scoots I've ever owned have had the juice to do that until now. Anyone have any ideas or thoughts? Anybody ride in NE Wisconsin/UP, Michigan?

Well jasho, looks like that's the route. Let me do some mapping at work this week and come up with some mileage estimates, potential stops and schedule.

The Loop Lake Erie ride looks like fun, but all in one day? I'd have trouble doing that in a cage! Good cause though.

You guys are wimps! (Well, me too I guess.) POC Nick did Lake Erie AND Lake Ontario in one day!

Completely around Lake Erie and Lake Ontario in one day? That has to be at least 1000 miles.

Going around Lake Michigan is at least 950 miles (and that is using some expressways), so even more without expressways. At least 16 hours of riding, I think a lot more. That would be a cool ride, I've driven around, or been around, most of lake Michigan, except for a stretch in Wisconsin.

Yes! Two years ago he did the Lake Erie Loop. Last year he did same and added on the Lake Ontario circumnavigation to get the Ironbutt.

He said toward the end he was hallucinating. It looked like bridge underpasses were going to crush him. He stopped for a red bull about 2 hours from completion and then finished the ride.

Here's a quickie... 897 miles (set the software to avoid major highways) and 15:20 of ride time.

You'd be riding withing 3 - 4 blocks of where I grew up in Milwaukee! There'd be some great sites.

Any other summer than this one, it's booked, but it sure sounds great. I've driven most of it on different occasions. You'd just have to factor in cool breezes year round.

The Lake Erie loop was already mentioned, and the Mad Bastard Rally was around Lake Ontario a couple of years ago as well. It would be kinda cool to "do" all the Great Lakes....

So, 900 miles. What is that, 9 tanks of gas? $45-$50? LMAO. Figure a couple of hundred for hotels another hundo for food all for a lifetime of memories? Cheaper than going to Europe!

Guess I'll need a rear rack now, maybe a front one too. Anybody got a list of spares that should be packed? How about potential deadspots for cell phone coverage?
