Modern Vespa

I fitted my Vespa flyscreen today....wow what a difference.

Went for a quick spin earlier....started to slow down as I was catching up traffic and then thought my brakes weren't working. Looked at the speedo and it was at 65mph, thought I was doing 40. The wind really is deflected up and over (into helmet!). Bike feels quicker (probably not just a lot less air into the chest)
Does get to 80 now a lot quicker...


Downside is it is a little noiser and also it doesn't look as nice.

I agree. The screen really lends the impression that one is going faster. I too think the screen does not look as nice as the smooth contours of the bike au naturale, but the wind relief is worht the trade-off

Couldn't agree more with your observations. Once you've tried the flyscreen though, it kind of becomes essential.

Simes, how tall are you? Curious as I would like to add a windshield soon too. I'm 5'7'' and wonder if the flyscreen would be sufficient.

i have the flyscreen and im 5 ft 10. it does make the scoot faster. the wind noise is deafening at 70 but i wear ear plugs. it stops alot of the strain on your arms as well.

So, I wonder if a slightly taller one would reduce the wind noise.......

I too added a small vespa flyscreen this weekend. What a great enhancement. Hi end acceleration definitely improved, an extra 5mph on the top speed and highspeed handling was more stable. The screen did lower wind pressure on my chest and shoulders slightly but I am large. The screen does create a bit of a whistling noise at about 70 mph. Overall it makes freeway travel much more comfortable. I had no problem hitting 85 mph (indicated).

Do you think a small (7" high) windscreen would make a difference on a 50cc bike going 45 mph? Would it help reduce wind on my chest and face?

i dont know if it would make much difference at lower speeds. it may speed your scoot up a little in a headwind.
