Modern Vespa

hi all ,had the exhaust issue last week just started getting louder !!
blowing out the gaskett at the join ,piaggio assist picked it up and took it to the dealer .there is now a modified down pipe with a fatter end for a better seal ,will get the bike back tomorrow (monday).

so if you have had this prob you may be entitled to the mod.
iv'e been told its under warrenty will find out for sure when i pick it up
its now done 7300 miles 7mths old

ok got the bike back all good and all done under warranty,sorry didn't get a part No.
bike does get used on the motorway although not daily its used mainly round town (doing the knowledge ) so it does work hard , between 50 - 70 miles a day.

there is a large flange on the down pipe where it meets part 2 of the exhaust, there is now a much bigger bolt and jubilee clip to keep it all together.

will let you know if it does'nt.

Interesting that it was a warranty repair as many (wrongly) say it is not.

Who did the repair for you? I may want to get them to do some work on mine depending on location.

Moto amore bronze bearing $43 delivered( in the US) from California: 408 295 3004. permanent solution (he says) to this annoying problem. Buy before you need as he isn't very fast ( he takes paypal or checks and they have to clear...).
Piaggio replacement, one use only, bearings, from Scooterswest (California) $34 on their website.

My bearing is in the mail...

I suspect it's a different story and different policy here in the US with the warranty. Vespa USA isn't exactly in-touch with it's clientele or anything....

charlesm, its a company called thompsons and they are in st albans , not that near me but worth the extra few miles, a master piaggio dealer ,who do what they say they'll do and do it well.

I installed the moto amore bearing and it was really simple. I do notice that the exhaust is a bit louder when the bike is cold - I'm assuming there is a tiny bit of leakage until things get hot and expand.

I'm taking mine off to change tires. It looks staightforward, three bracket allen head bolts and two header bolts. What is the sensor fitted into the pipe coming off the head? Do you just back off the nut and then reinsert the sensor and retighten when done?

Any help appreciated!

First off, on the GTS, I'm pretty sure you have Torx nuts holding on the exhaust, not Allen.

The gasket in question is between the exhaust (big heavy black part) and the header pipe, so if you remove it there it is just a matter of loosening one nut. But then you have to deal with the gasket. If you take off the exhaust by undoing the two bolts at the cylinder head, I think you can unplug the O2 sensor and just leave it in the pipe. (At least I think that's the O2 sensor.) IIRC you need to be careful with those header bolts as they are brass or copper or some kind of soft metal.
