So you get rollers or sliders that last longer than standard but you still need to replace the belt at 6,000 miles ( per the manual). So then what? replacing sliders a few thousnad miles on, after you've already changed the belt?
Thats to say whats the point of longer replacement intervals for rollers/sliders if the belt change interval remains the same?
(Bear in mind I'm happy with standard perfromance from my GTS and I'm only looking for longer service intervals- a longer interval on a non OEM belt would be good combined with longer wearing rollers/sliders).

hey guys.
i want to know what rollers i have in my clutch. it is a malossi clutch that the previous owner had fitted. how do i tell what weight rollers i have, i dont have an accurate enough scales. is the weight usually written on the rollers?
also how do i take off the clutch on my et2? is there a write up of how to change the rollers yourself on here anywhere?

Yeah, we made a boo-boo with the plug. Sorry again about that!! We're going to stop the drinking when packaging the goods, it just doesn't seem to be working out...... j/k!!!!!

For an accurate assessment to be made on the differences between rollers and sliders, they should be of the same weight. I'm assuming that most folks would order slightly lighter sliders. Then we wouldn't know if the advantages were from the different technology, or just the overall lighter weight.

Napa Coach: what weight are your sliders? Maybe I'll send you a set of the malossi rollers in the same weight so we can do a proper test.

Your roller weights are in the variator, not the clutch. As for which weight they could be, who knows. Malossi makes tons of different sizes. The weight is written on the side of the roller, but after wear and tear, it's usually impossible to tell. Check the technical section for how to change it. I've always said it's easier to change weights and belts than to rebuild the carb. If you want to start wrenching on your ET2, I suggest you get a shop manual.

He ordered the 8.5g sliders. As it happens, I did too. My GTS has always been slower off the line than other GTSs I've ridden, so I'm going to experiment with these and see if they improve things. Not so much because of the sliding aspect of them (although that's interesting and worthwhile too) but because of the lighter weight.

You're right, though, it's not very scientific.

if your cool with your GTS topping out in the 70mph range the 8.5g sliders are great

spock: ok my workshop manual arrived today which will enable me to do this stuff. i think i may wait until i fit the 70cc kit so i can go lighter with the rollers and still have a bit of top end speed.
im still learning.....ive only had the et2 a couple of weeks and its great fun.

max: i'll speak to you on the email....i forgot to mention im in australia so its not so simple for me to phone you during the times you said. but the cheaper of the malossi 70cc kits & the new carb jet sounds good to me.

Bummer. Sorry to hear that, since mine haven't even arrived yet.

so what dr.pulley weights would you use then to try and keep the top speed the same as it is now?

I fitted 8.5 gram sliders to my GT200, and experienced much better acceleration and no loss of top speed - still 120kph (about 75mph). But a GTS might be another story.
