Modern Vespa

I bought one from Max @ Motorsport, but was less than thrilled. As always Max was a prince and was more than willing to make it right. But since I already farted off 60 bucks why not get some Vintage Red touch-up paint and call it a matching summer helmet....so 25 bucks more and I have some VR Piaggio piant. (OUCH PIAGGIO)

Whats the best way to prep the helmet before spraying....25USD only gets 200ML.....I'd like to end the financial adventure @85USD

What didn't you like about the helmet? If your usual lid is the Shoei inyour avatar, I could see how the Corsa might come up a bit lacking in comparison. :?

I didn't compare it to Shoei, rather to other helmets in it's style and price range. But.....that's not the point of my inquiry...Max was perfectly willing to work with me.... any advise on prepping to paint?

Im not a pro so dont anyone jump on me ,but Ive painted a lot of my own stuff. I usualy scuff the surface with a fine grit sand paper or steel wool then wipe down with alchohol to get the dust off and any oils then a coat of primer spray paint (Ive also skipped the first step and used a clear primer that says it doesnt need scuffing but it dont work as well) I then let it dry MAKE SURE ITS DRY then start the first coat of the color I want ,Use tape to mask off parts not painting or if two toning.Let that dry ALL THE WAY.After a few coats I spray a couple coats of clear.Hope this helps
P.S. Dont let any dust get on the wet paint and watch out for finger prints it may look dry but it will still be soft for a while especialy if you dont let it dry between coats.Good luck

I think you are supposed to prep it using a wet/dry emery paper,
I seem to remember using it in plastic's class back in Art College.

Not sure which grade you are supposed to use though.
