Hi all am new to site (joined in April)also first post. Have gotten allot of info. Off site thanks to you all. Just wanted to share how I mounted side cases in hopes of helping others that are interested in doing the same. Ordered the cheapest set of side case mounts I could find they are for a BMW F650GS (2000/2004) PL188-KL188
From Givi purchased off Ebay. Knowing I would be cutting them up anyway but to my surprise very little in fabricating had to be done. Here is a list of materials used.
2- 1" Two piece shaft collars drilled and tapped on one side to 1/4"-20
1-small piece of 1"X 1" x1/16" angle iron (only using two 1" pieces)
2- 10mm dia. X 5/8" long spacers drilled so 6mm bolt to pass thru.
1- piece of 1" X 1/8" flat iron (2' long)
2- 3/8-16 bolts 3/4" long, 2- 3/8" flat washers, 2- 3/8" acorn nuts & 2- 3/8" lock washers
2- 5/16-18 bolts 1/2" long, 2- 5/16" flat washers, 2- 5/16" nuts & 2- 5/16" lock washers
2- 1/4-20 bolts 1/2" long, 2- 1/4" flat washers, & 2- 1/4" lock washers
2- 6mmX 50mm bolts & 2- 6mm flat washers
Will reuse 2- 6mm bolts from body panel
Everything else came with side brackets.
side case mounts as they came
made brackets to fit cross bar to OME top case brackets
next found that long corner on mount crossed right over body panel bolt that is part of frame so removed bolt made a spacer , cut and flattened bracket, drilled hole and installed 6mmX50mm bolt with flat washer
next used 1" collar and angle iron to make top connection
used original body panel bolt at back of bracket to cross bar with spacer that came with side bracket . just some of parts used note how drilled and tapped collar for angle iron attach point
how they look on scoot
how mounted to body panel
afew pictures after painting & installing both sides then adding GIVI E41 side cases

STUPENDOUS first post. Please give a little more explanation of the spacers; did you drill out the existig hole in the tupperware and the spacer fits through, or is the body panel being squeezed between the nut underneath and the spacer on top of it?

I bet you could fit one or a pair of Rotopax gas cans in there and still have plenty of room to boot. Great job!

That looks good. It's a much snugger fit to the sides than I've seen on previous attempts. Those side cases are HUGE!

I'd love to hear some longer term reports on how it holds up.

Nice work, Minimag123, thanks for sharing.

Where did you source that 1" collar, and how is the bracket bolted to it? Does the collar have some kind of tab on it?

1. As far as wind resistance I haven't noticed them at all. Will see what effect they have on gas milage?
2. The 1" collars are availible from Fastenal, Grainger ,Mcmaster carr & Enco.
3. I drilled and tapped collars to 1/4-20. Used small piece of 1' X 1" angle iron drilled on one side for 1/4" bolt and other side 5/16" bolt then anle iron goes from collar to bracket.
4. It is alittle more difficult to put scoot on stand but mainly because top bracket connection is where I would normally grab side rails to do it.
Also boxes can be taken off or reinstalled very easily. After testing I will only use them when running around with wife on weekends or traveling.

I like your work, as it looks factory. One side note I haven't seen brought up is, this looks like it would do pretty well in a slow/no speed tip over to help protect the tupperware.

I wish there was more protection available for the scooter in the event that gravity takes over, and perhaps an exoskeleton of tubing and spacers may be feasible afterall.

Congrats on such a remarkable entry into the group. I only had jokes..

There is enough room if you put the bolt up from the bottom and have the nylock on top. You can cap it off with an acorn nut for a smooth finish. Great job either way.

Very well done. Though I whiteline enough here in CA that side
cases like yours would put a end to that. I don't know if that's legal in PA.

First full tank of gas with side cases. A mix of driving back and forth to work, two up riding with wife with a mix of in town & highway. Speeds ranging between 25-60mph but vast majority between 45-55mph. Before cases was getting between 52-55mpg most being close to 55mpg. with cases I got 53mpg I know you cant tell from first tank but looking promising! Just finished second tank 6-9-2012 same driving conditions but all of tank two up riding with wife 53.3mpg.
6-11-2012 finished third tank with about 2/3rds of tank in 55-70 mph range all two up riding at 56mpg. so far not noticing any drawback to cases at all.6-17-2012 Final tank of fuel for testing 54.8 mpg will now only use cases when with wife or traveling.

Minimag123 kinda slid in here, had his say, and hasn't been heard from since last August. I thought this was quite an addition to MP3 styling and mods.

I still visit now and then sorry I havent posted for some. After half a years riding they have been by far the best mod. I have done to scoot wife loves them. they havent had any real effect on my gas milage but i dont do much highway riding. You can carry quite a load with them. I have done more mods to scoot borrowing a few ideas from the sight right now just looking for any chance to ride during winter months.

Nice Job!

I wonder if these marine grade pipe clamps might work well for a job like this? And look very nice in polished stainless steel too!

so is this all there is of the saddlebag bracket mounts?

I got some nice large saddlebags, which I need to fabricate some brackets. But some of these links have died.

How did that gas mileage work over time with the saddlebags?
