hey guys.
ive read numerous posts regarding performance mods to the et2 and many people know about and recommend the 70cc malossi kit, but i havent really come across anyone who knows exactly what it involves and can tell me a complete parts i will need to convert it.
anyway, im in australia, just bought a blue 2003 et2. it already has a gianelli exhaust fitted and a different clutch, apparantly malossi.
i can cruise at about 75km/h on the flat but i want to get a quicker acceleration off the line without losing any top end speed. actually, i would like to get better acceleration and faster top speed if possible. i often ride up steep hills too, so another reason for some more oomph.
i dont want to upgrade to the et4 cause here in adelaide a full bike licence costs over $600, whereas i can ride the et2 on my normal car licence.
what i need to know is, what exactly do i need?
ive only just discovered about 'jetting the carb' but am unsure what this means.
i know that lighter rollers in the clutch generally gives quicker acceleration but how do i check which rollers have been put in it? (i have the stock clutch and rollers along with the stock exhaust) given to me when i bought the vespa second hand last week, so i dont really know what clutch/parts it has.
i have ordered a workshop manual on cd off ebay which should arrive soon which will hopefully help me play around with it a bit.....
i dont know which 70cc kit to go for, where to get it in australia and how difficult or easy it is to swap over and install.
if somebody could help me with a list of exactly what i need to improve the performance of my et2, i'd really appreciate it!!
oh & i know that doing this stuff will get me less miles per galon, but its still cheaper than running the car, plus i dont ride the vespa every day.
thanks in advance.
cheers.

You can do bigger cylinder, exhaust, carb, rollers, weights, etc.
Ours just has the cylinder and exhaust. It's quicker off of the line, has higher top speed, gas mileage is less. It's a lot of fun. We did not do the install ourselves but bought it used from a friend. His local Vespa shop did the work. Good luck.

We like the Malossi 70cc kit and the Leo Vince SP3 exhaust. If you really want to get more top speed, add a malossi over-range kit. It replaces the variator and torque driver, and also gives you a kevlar belt and gets top speed up from about 45mph to about 65mph.

When you do the malossi 70cc kit and exhaust, you will need to upjet your carb a bit. I can't really tell you more about that becuase the USA models came with their own type of carb, and it's all I know. Upjetting means replacing a small brass screw in your carburetor with a different small brass screw that allows a richer mixture of fuel to air.

We can ship to Australia for about US$35-55 depending on what you order and have all the above parts in stock. Most are on sale.

one for max
hi again max. bare with me with all the questions!

whats the difference between the malossi 70cc kit & a malossi MHR replica 70cc for the et2. im unsure which one to go for...
could you send me some new light rollers (what do you recommend with this setup) the new jet for my carby (assuming its the same as the one youre talking about), a malossi kevlar belt and a malossi air filter too?
what does that come to in total with postage to adelaide, australia?

cheers.

i second the recommendation by max. the 70 kit, with a SP3 pipe, up jetted carb and the variator/overrange kit is a nice little combo. i'd say it's the best combo of power, reliability and price.

best,

I have a 2001 ET2 with a 70cc Malossi and a Leo Vince touring pipe, and no other upgrades. It improved torque and added about 10 mph to top speed (indicates 50 or so).

BUT in the 3000 miles since the install it has soft-seized several times and the top end is now shot. It was fun while it lasted!

Did you chamfer the ports of the new cylinder and also upjet your carb? These are things that other scooter stores sometimes don't tell you to do when you buy from them. Omitting either of these steps will cause seizing on your top end.

These kits are extremely reliable when installed correctly.

I have the malossi/leo vince touring pipe setup, and it runs great. Someone recently gave me a malossi clutch brand new in the box. Max, what difference would that Malossi clutch make in the ET2?

Faster starts off the line would be the advantage. Slightly decreased drivability at low speeds would be the down side.
