FAQ: Why does my new Vespa smell funny?
This is completely normal. For the first week or two (depending on how much you ride) you'll smell the paint from the muffler "burning off". The muffler gets very hot, and even though it is painted with heat-resistant paint, it does produce some fumes.

Consider this a good excuse to get out there and ride your scooter some more. The more you ride it, the less it will smell.
